[SAMPLE POST] Five checks to do before winter

Simple checks to do on your car before the cold weather arrives on the Island. Replace this sample post with your own.

Cold mornings find the weak spots in a car. A few minutes on the driveway now can save a call-out later.

1. Tyres

Check the tread depth and the pressures. The legal minimum is 1.6mm, but grip in the wet drops off well before that.

2. Battery

If the car has been slow to start, or the battery is more than about five years old, get it tested before the first frost.

3. Lights

Walk round the car with the lights on. Ask someone to check the brake lights while you press the pedal.

4. Wipers and screenwash

Smeary wipers are cheap to replace. Use a proper screenwash rather than water, which can freeze in the bottle.

5. Coolant

Check the level when the engine is cold. If it keeps dropping, there may be a leak worth looking at.

If anything doesn't look right, request a quote or book a service and we'll take a look.
